Renteria likely idled until road opener

SAN FRANCISCO --- Shortstop Edgar Renteria, sidelined by a strained right groin, is day-to-day, manager Bruce Brochy said before Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies.

Renteria is doubtful for this three-game series, which concludes Sunday. Bochy said Renteria will "hopefully" be ready for a three-game road series against the Florida Marlins beginning Tuesday.

Renteria left Friday night's series-opening win after two innings with tightness in his groin.

Renteria drew a first-inning walk and slid into second base in an attempt to break up a double play, then stayed in the game for the second inning and handled a routine Clint Barmes grounder.

But when the Giants took the field for the third inning, Juan Uribe moved from second base to shortstop, Mark DeRosa switched from left field to second base and John Bowker entered the game to play left.

When asked what might have caused Renteria's injury, Bochy talked about a secondary lead Renteria took on the basepaths.
