Injured Sanchez showing progress

LOS ANGELES -- Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez is continuing to recover from his injured left shoulder at extended spring training in Arizona and could begin an injury rehabilitation assignment in the Minor Leagues before the end of the month.

Sanchez has been taking batting practice off coaches and performing other baseball-related activities. Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said Saturday that Sanchez probably would need to maintain his current regimen for at least another full week before a rehab assignment would be considered.

"I think he's just trying to get in baseball shape," Groeschner said.

Sanchez, 32, could perform in extended spring training exhibitions without tapping his allotment of 20 injury-rehab games in the Minors.
