Giants win challenge to erase run, end inning

SAN DIEGO -- The Giants successfully challenged a third-inning umpire's call in their 4-3 victory Sunday over San Diego, which denied the Padres a run and halted a rally.

With two outs, the bases loaded and San Francisco leading, 4-0, Chase Headley lashed a double into the right-field corner off Tim Lincecum. Will Venable and Seth Smith scored easily. Xavier Nady, who walked to fill the bases, also tried to come home. Giants catcher Buster Posey applied a sweeping tag upon Nady, who originally was ruled safe by plate umpire Mike DiMuro.

But the call ultimately was overturned following the video review, as it was determined that Posey had tagged Nady's back before any part of his body made contact with home plate.

"I felt he tagged me before I reached the plate," Nady admitted.

The inning ended, as did the Padres' uprising.

"Obviously, it changed the game today," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.
