SAN DIEGO -- Buster Posey and Michael Morse, two of the Giants' most prominent offensive threats, received rests Friday night and were not in the starting lineup against the San Diego Padres.

Neither player was hurt, though manager Bruce Bochy mentioned that Morse experienced some hamstring tightness Thursday. Both are expected to be in Saturday's lineup.

At this juncture, rest could be timely for both Posey and Morse. Entering Friday, Posey started 14 of San Francisco' first 16 games and was in a 1-for-19 skid, while Morse had started 15 games and was hitting .158 (3-for-19) with no extra-base hits in his past six games.

Their slumps haven't been all-encompassing. Posey's hitting .417 (5-for-12) with runners in scoring position. Morse owned a .306 batting average overall and was tied for the team lead with 10 RBIs.

Shortstop Brandon Crawford returned to the lineup after missing two games with tightness in his right hamstring.
