Giants statement on the passing of Jim Fregosi

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - The San Francisco Giants join the Major League Baseball community in mourning the passing of Jim Fregosi, who died early this morning in Miami, Florida. Fregosi, who was 71 years-old, served as a Special Assistant to Giants Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean for two seasons (1997-98).

Giants GM Brian Sabean made the following statement:

"The passing of Jim Fregosi leaves a hole in the unique fabric of our great game. He was a great friend and mentor to so many no matter what hat he wore. His bigger than life personality will be sorely missed. He was a one-of-a kind baseball lifer."

Bay Area native, Fregosi attended Junípero Serra High School in San Mateo, California, where he earned 11 varsity letters in four sports including football, basketball, track and baseball.
