Giants sign Michael Morse to a one-year contract


SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The San Francisco Giants have signed Michael Morse to a one-year contract, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Morse, 31 years old, appeared in 88 games last season with the Mariners (76) and Orioles (12), batting .215 (67-for-312) with 13 doubles, 13 home runs and 27 RBI. He missed significant time with a left wrist injury and a strained right quadriceps that placed him on the disabled list.

The Fort Lauderdale, FL native has experienced success in the NL West posting a .333 avg. with 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 57 RBI in 78 games against opponents in the division. From 2010-2012 Morse ranked 10th among all NL regulars in slugging (.516) and 11th in OPS (.861). He has recorded four-straight seasons with double digit home runs and throughout his career, has batted .284 against left-handed pitching, with a .340 on-base pct. and an .819 OPS.

Originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2000, Morse owns a lifetime .281 avg. with 83 home runs and 272 RBI in 573 big league games over the course of nine season with Seattle (2005-08, 2013), Washington (2009-12) and Baltimore (2013).
