Law named to AFL's top prospects team

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Right-hander Derek Law was the lone Minor Leaguer from the Giants organization to make the Arizona Fall League top prospects team, which was named Monday.

Law, 23, was one of two relievers selected for the squad, which was chosen by the league's managers and coaches.

In 11 appearances for the Scottsdale Scorpions, Law allowed only one unearned run and eight hits while striking out 16 in a span of 12 1/3 innings. That followed a regular season in which he finished 5-3 with a 2.31 ERA and 14 saves for three affiliates, topped by Class A San Jose. In 46 games, Law struck out 102 and walked only 12 in 66 1/3 innings.

Giants general manager Brian Sabean didn't rule out Law's chances of competing for a Major League bullpen spot during Spring Training.

"He was lights-out in the Fall League," Sabean said. "You never know."
