Giants part ways with Peguero, Rosario

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants announced Monday night that they declined to tender 2014 contracts to outfielder Francisco Peguero and right-hander Sandy Rosario, trimming both from the 40-man roster.

Peguero, 25, was designated for assignment last Wednesday. Entering last season, MLB.com rated Peguero as the 98th-best prospect overall, while Baseball America tabbed him as the Giants' fifth-best prospect. While performing for Triple-A Fresno, Peguero sustained a June concussion that forced him to miss 12 games. He divided his season between Fresno and San Francisco, batting .316 in 70 games at Triple-A and .207 (6-for-29) in 18 games with the Majors.

Peguero's biggest moment occurred in the Giants' regular-season finale, when his ninth-inning home run off San Diego closer Huston Street tied the score and led to a San Francisco victory.

Rosario, 28, finished 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 43 appearances for the Giants. He sustained a hip injury on Sept. 17 and was sidelined for the rest of the season.
