Gaudin thinks time on disabled list will be short

LOS ANGELES -- Right-hander Chad Gaudin, the Giants' latest addition to the 15-day disabled list, believes that he'll be able to rejoin the pitching staff on schedule -- July 6, during a home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I feel better every day," said Gaudin, who sustained a bruise on his throwing elbow when he was struck by a line drive off the bat of Miami's Derek Dietrich. Gaudin played catch again Tuesday, continuing a steady regimen of throwing.

Gaudin's assignment to the DL on Monday interrupted his four-game stay in the starting rotation as Ryan Vogelsong's replacement. But he refused to curse his fate.

"Things happen," said Gaudin, who's 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA overall, including 2-0, 3.38 as a starter. "You have to deal with them. The only thing you can control is your attitude."

In other injury-related news, manager Bruce Bochy said that infielder Joaquin Arias (strained left hamstring) won't play for the rest of the Dodgers series but should be fit to return this weekend at Colorado. Arias injured himself while running the bases in Monday's second inning.
