The World Series champion San Francisco Giants will be recognized with the Corporate Leader Award at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards next month.

The occasion will mark the first time GLAAD has honored a professional sports franchise. The event is slated for May 11 in San Francisco.

The Giants became the first professional sports team to host an HIV/AIDS benefit game, as they initiated "Until There's A Cure Day" in 1994. Since, the Giants and the Giants Community Fund have raised more than $1.3 million for Bay Area HIV/AIDS education and research and care and service organizations.

Among professional sports teams, the Giants were also pioneers when it came to recording a video for the "It Gets Better Project," a campaign dedicated to improving the lives for LGBT youth. The team also participated in last October's Spirit Day, GLAAD's annual anti-bullying initiative.

In May, the club will host its 11th annual LGBT Night Out, a game that celebrates LGBT fans and their allies. Proceeds will go toward local LGBT organizations.
