Bad weather forces Giants workouts indoors

|

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Giants engaged in their daily regimen of training despite Wednesday's showers that kept them off the fields and diamonds.

Position players were shuttled to the nearby Minor League facility to take batting practice in indoor cages. Pitchers took turns throwing off the four covered mounds at the Scottsdale Stadium complex.

"It actually worked out well," manager Bruce Bochy said.

Tim Lincecum was among the pitchers who threw off a mound. "He feels good and looks great," Bochy said of Lincecum, who has yet to face hitters in live batting practice.

Left-hander Michael Kickham, one of San Francisco's more promising starting prospects, overcame discomfort caused by a blister and logged his first throwing session. Right-hander Boof Bonser, who's in the closing stages of his recovery from Tommy John elbow surgery, is expected to throw a bullpen session Thursday.

Bochy and pitching coach Dave Righetti are pondering whether to stage a five-inning intrasquad game Friday or skip the game to set up pitchers for Cactus League appearances. The Giants open the exhibition season Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels.
