Sandoval set to kick off Minors rehab stint
SAN FRANCISCO -- Pablo Sandoval was scheduled to begin his rehab assignment Saturday as the designated hitter for the San Jose Giants (Class A-Advanced) against the Stockton Ports.

"It's good news that we're getting him back out there on the field and swinging the bat," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Hopefully we'll get him ready soon."

Bochy had said previously that he expects Sandoval's rehab assignment to last four to five games, and he said Saturday that Friday looks like a possible return date for the third baseman barring any setbacks.

Sandoval fractured a bone in his left wrist on May 2 and will only be batting left-handed initially as he continues to recover from the injury.
