Right-hander Kevin Correia likely made his last rehabilitation start for the Triple-A Grizzlies on Tuesday night. Merkin Valdez, a potentially valuable part of the Giants' bullpen when healthy, is expected to join the Grizzlies -- or possibly Class A San Jose -- by the end of the week after throwing a couple of innings for the Arizona Giants on Wednesday.
Correia has been on the disabled list since April 27 because of a strained muscle in his left side, but he is expected to return to San Francisco on Wednesday and rejoin the pitching rotation to start on June 15.
San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy has said it'll likely be a couple of weeks before Valdez returns, but when he does he'll provide an extra source of effective right-handed pitching in the bullpen. In 17 appearances this season, Valdez had a 1.69 ERA in 16 innings, but he hasn't pitched since May 12 because of a strained right elbow.
