SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Giants made a series of roster cuts Monday. Four pitchers were reassigned to Minor League camp, and reliever Ramon Ortiz was given his release.
Ortiz was 0-2 with a 2.53 ERA in seven Cactus League games spanning 10 2/3 innings. Oritz, 39, has 11 years of big league experiences with the Angles, Reds, Nationals, Twins, Rockies, Dodgers and Cubs, putting together an 86-84 record in 296 games, including 214 starts. He was with the Cubs in 2011, making 22 appearances (two starts) and posting a 4.86 ERA.
The Giants also reassigned right-handed pitchers Shane Loux (7.04 ERA in five games, 7 2/3 innings) and Andrew Kown (6.35 ERA in six games, 11 1/3 innings) and lefties Wilmin Rodriguez (1.69 ERA in six games, 5 1/3 innings) and Brian Burres (4.76 ERA, in five games 11 1/3 innings) to Minor League camp.
