SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Having sported close-cropped hair as a Giant, left-hander Javier Lopez reported to camp resembling a fifth Beatle.
Blame the trade last December that sent right-hander Ramon Ramirez and outfielder Andres Torres to the New York Mets for outfielder Angel Pagan.
Lopez explained that Ramirez trimmed hair when he wasn't throwing in the bullpen. He gave Lopez a final once-over as last season ended. Lopez said that he allowed his hair to grow during the offseason and was awaiting a Spring Training session with his personal barber. Of course, Lopez had no idea as the winter began that Ramirez would be dealt.
Lopez now has no choice but to seek a new stylist.
"It's tough to get a flight to Port St. Lucie [the Mets' spring home in Florida] and get back in time for the workout," Lopez said.
