Vogelsong, 34, completed a stunning renaissance as he rejoined the Giants, the team that drafted him in 1998. He finished 13-7 with a 2.71 ERA, exceeding the victory total he compiled with Pittsburgh (10) from 2001-06 after he went to the Pirates in the Jason Schmidt trade. Vogelsong spent 2007-09 playing in Japan and pitched during 2010 at Triple-A with the Phillies and Angels organizations before the Giants invited him to Spring Training this year.
That's when Vogelsong's luck changed. He pitched well enough to be the first starting pitcher summoned from Triple-A Fresno after Barry Zito sprained his right foot in mid-April. Vogelsong defeated Pittsburgh on April 28 to earn his first Major League victory as a starter in 2,412 days. He proceeded to win nine of his first 10 decisions, make the All-Star team, rank fourth in the NL in ERA and win the "Willie Mac" Award as the Giants' most inspirational player.
