PHILADELPHIA -- Infielder Emmanuel Burriss, who has had to keep his bags packed as a member of the Giants organization, was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Thursday to fit outfielder Carlos Beltran on the 25-man active roster.
Burriss, 26, has divided four consecutive seasons between San Francisco and Fresno. He said that manager Bruce Bochy did not inform him what positions he would play at Fresno or whether he'd return in September when roster limits grow to 40.
In 48 games with the Giants, Burriss hit .217 with no homers and four RBIs. He ranked second on the club with 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts. The switch-hitter started 22 games at second base, three at shortstop and two at third base.
The Giants also activated infielder Bill Hall, who was recovering from a cut on his lower left leg, from the disabled list and designated him for assignment. San Francisco signed Hall shortly after losing second baseman Freddy Sanchez to a dislocated right shoulder on June 10. Hall appeared in 16 games with the Giants and batted .188.
