SAN DIEGO -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy was aware that fans might wonder why Brandon Belt wasn't recalled Friday when left fielder Pat Burrell went on the disabled list. Bochy had a ready answer.

"We don't want to bring him up unless we can give him consistent playing time," Bochy said. He pointed out that no room exists in the Giants' outfield and that Aubrey Huff remains San Francisco's starting first baseman.

Meanwhile, Belt has done what he can to force a promotion. In 39 games with Triple-A Fresno entering Friday, he was batting .336 with seven home runs, 28 RBIs and a 1.026 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).
