Tejada visits home to deliver aid to schoolkids

SAN DIEGO -- Miguel Tejada experienced what perhaps was the busiest All-Star break among all the Giants.

It also might have been the most rewarding.

Tejada and his wife, Alejandra, returned to his hometown of Bani in the Dominican Republic to donate 2,500 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in the area. This was the latest of several humanitarian efforts Tejada has initiated to help his countrymen.

"School supplies there are expensive," Tejada explained. "If you're a parent and you have three or four children, it's very tough."

Tejada distributed the backpacks Tuesday and received permission from manager Bruce Bochy to skip Wednesday night's workout at PETCO Park.
