CHICAGO -- Don't expect right-hander Santiago Casilla to make a speedy return to the Giants' pitching staff from his injury rehabilitation stint with Class A San Jose.

Manager Bruce Bochy didn't rule out the possibility of Casilla rejoining the Giants during their May 20-26 homestand against Oakland and Florida, but he indicated that the reliever will need more time to regain arm strength.

Casilla, who was sidelined by an inflamed right elbow after making one regular-season appearance, began his rehab assignment by pitching a scoreless inning Friday night for San Jose. He was 7-2 with a 1.95 ERA in 52 outings last year, striking out 56 in 55 1/3 innings.
