Athletics at the plate: Oakland tied the game at 2 in the second when Bobby Kielty smacked a double to center to bring in Nick Swisher; Kielty then came home on a sacrifice fly from Adam Melhuse. The A's batted through the lineup and added another five runs in the sixth inning to take a three-run lead with RBI singles from Kielty, Danny Putnam and Melhuse and a run-scoring double from Lou Merloni.

Giants at the plate: Barry Bonds showed flashes of the past when he belted home runs in his first two at-bats, the first a two-run shot to right in the first inning and the second over center, giving San Francisco a 4-2 lead. Lance Niekro added another run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to chop Oakland's lead to 7-5.

Athletics on the mound: Despite being lit up by Bonds for two home runs, Joe Kennedy pitched six innings allowing four runs and five hits. Colby Lewis allowed one run in two innings pitched and Connor Robertson earned the save for Oakland.

Giants on the mound: Noah Lowry held the A's to two runs and four hits in three innings of work. Scott Atchison and Dan Giese combined to allow five runs and seven hits, Vinnie Chulk allowed one home run and Jack Taschner contributed one scoreless inning.

Exhibition records: Athletics 17-12-2; Giants 15-18-1.

Up next: The Giants will open against the Padres on Tuesday with a solidified roster that includes a pitching staff of 12. Left-hander Barry Zito is slated to start opposite San Diego righty Jake Peavy. The A's kick off the season Monday in Seattle, with Dan Haren scheduled to face the Mariners' Felix Hernandez.
