Mariners at the plate:
The Mariners advanced only three runners to second base. Ichiro Suzuki singled to open the game and stole second base. Adrian Beltre and Jose Guillen singled back-to-back in the third inning. Rey Ordonez doubled in the top of the ninth.
Giants at the plate:
With two outs in the first inning, Barry Bonds singled, Ray Durham tripled and Rich Aurilia singled to generate a pair of runs. Pinch-hitter Eliezer Alfonzo added a bases-loaded, two-run single in the sixth.
Mariners on the mound:
After surrendering two runs and five hits in the first inning, Jarrod Washburn blanked the Giants for the next four innings. But his two-out walk in the sixth led to two runs.
Giants on the mound:
Barry Zito tuned up for his Opening Day start against San Diego next Tuesday by blanking the Mariners on three hits for six innings. Sun-Woo Kim and Brian Wilson each contributed a scoreless inning before Armando Benitez worked the ninth to seal the Giants' sixth consecutive exhibition victory this year over the Mariners.
Mariners 13-19; Giants 15-16.
Seattle travels to Las Vegas to play the first of two exhibitions against the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Right-handed starter Miguel Batista has allowed 10 runs and 23 hits in 11 innings over his last two starts. By contrast, Matt Cain, who starts for the Giants against the A's at AT&T Park, has yielded four runs and 10 hits in 11 2/3 innings in his previous two outings.
