PITTSBURGH -- Though Ryan Vogelsong has thrown just 16 innings spanning four appearances with Triple-A Fresno and the Giants this season, pitching coach Dave Righetti said that the right-hander will not be on a strict pitch limit when he faces the Pittsburgh Pirates in Thursday's series finale. "Like anybody, we'll keep an eye on him when he gets in the middle of the game and go from there," Righetti said Wednesday. "But there is no certain number." Though this will be Vogelsong's first Major League start since Sept. 29, 2004, his familiarity with PNC Park, due to having pitched for Pittsburgh from 2001-06, should help him remain calm.
"There's a comfortability there, because he's pitching here in a park that he's used to," Righetti said.
