Giants' second round of cuts trims roster to 34

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Giants made their second batch of roster cuts Monday, trimming their spring contingent to 34 players.

Infielder Emmanuel Burriss and center fielder Darren Ford were optioned to Minor League camp. Right-handers Casey Daigle, Shane Loux and Felix Romero, catcher Jackson Williams and first baseman Brad Eldred were reassigned to Minor League camp.

Of the seven, Burriss might have been expected to last longer with the big leaguers. He has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Giants. But, manager Bruce Bochy said, "We don't have a lot of playing time for him right now. He needs to play."

Worth noting: Shortstop Miguel Tejada occupied the eighth position in Monday's lineup, which featured all of San Francisco's projected regulars. Bochy said he wanted to see how the offense might function with the versatile Tejada in that spot. ... Tuesday is a scheduled off-day for the Giants, but No. 2 starter Jonathan Sanchez will take his usual pitching turn by appearing in a Minor League exhibition game.
