Bumgarner likely to start Game 4 of NLCS

PHILADELPHIA -- Madison Bumgarner almost surely will start Game 4 of the National League Championship Series for the Giants on Wednesday. Tim Lincecum won't.

But manager Bruce Bochy emphasized that neither element has anything to do with the blistered finger on Lincecum's throwing hand that bothered him in Game 1 of the Division Series against Atlanta.

"He's been fine," Bochy said of Lincecum, who's all clear to start NLCS Game 1 on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Wednesday, Bochy said that Bumgarner was "penciled in" as the Game 4 starter. The manager underlined Bumgarner's name with his remarks Thursday. Bumgarner proved that he's ready for playoff prime time by earning the decision in the Giants' Division Series-clinching triumph in Monday's Game 4 at Atlanta.

Bochy still left open the possibility that he could "call an audible" for Game 4, meaning that Lincecum conceivably could pitch on three days' rest.
