SAN FRANCISCO -- Edgar Renteria's sore right elbow left the Giants shortstop unavailable to start for the second straight day, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Bochy said Renteria could be called upon as a pinch-hitter or late-inning defensive replacement for an inning, if needed. On Thursday and Friday, Renteria started at shortstop and hit leadoff against left-handed starters, but his elbow flared up in Friday's game and he was unavailable Saturday. With Brewers lefty Chris Narveson on the hill Sunday, Bochy had hoped to deploy the same lineup -- with Juan Uribe shifting to third -- but was unable to.
Bochy seemed optimistic Renteria would be healthy for the Giants' upcoming road trip. "He's doing better, making improvements," Bochy said. "Hopefully with a day off, in Chicago he'll be available."
