A's at the plate: Eric Chavez opened the scoring with a first-inning RBI double. Nick Swisher drove in another with a single.

Giants at the plate: Todd Greene pushed across the first two runs with his third-inning single. Lance Niekro doubled twice and drove in the tying run in the seventh inning before Kevin Frandsen (2-for-4) singled in the go-ahead run.

A's on the mound: Starter Dan Haren breezed once through the order, allowing just one hit before giving up a pair of runs in the fourth. Haren struck out five and hit one batter. Jay Witasick gave up three runs in relief.

Giants on the mound: Starter Noah Lowry gave up two earned runs (and two unearned) while allowing six hits over five innings, striking out six while walking two. Armando Benitez, who gave up nine earned runs in 1 1/3 innings in his previous outing, walked two while pitching a scoreless inning.

Coming up: San Francisco right-hander Matt Cain will be dueling right-hander Esteban Loaiza, making his first Oakland appearance in an A's uniform Saturday. The Bay Bridge Series returns to AT&T Park on Sunday.
